SELLUxy-Forte is a combination medication that contains Amoxycillin and Clavulanic Acid, used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections. Amoxycillin is a broad-spectrum penicillin-type antibiotic that works by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacterial cell wall, leading to the destruction of the bacteria. However, some bacteria produce an enzyme called beta-lactamase that can break down amoxycillin and render it ineffective. To overcome this, Clavulanic Acid is added. Clavulanic Acid is a beta-lactamase inhibitor that binds to and inactivates these enzymes, allowing Amoxycillin to work effectively even against resistant bacteria. SELLUxy-Forte is commonly used in the treatment of infections of the respiratory tract, urinary tract, skin, soft tissues, ear, nose, and throat. It is especially beneficial in treating infections caused by mixed bacterial strains, including those resistant to standard penicillin therapy. The medication should be taken exactly as prescribed by the healthcare provider, usually with food to reduce the chance of stomach upset. Completing the full course of treatment is essential to ensure all bacteria are eradicated and to prevent the development of resistance. Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhea, and skin rash. It should not be used in individuals allergic to penicillin or cephalosporins.
